Javier Hernandez is a predator, says Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio

Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez made exactly the right move when he joined Bayer Leverkusen from Manchester United, Mexico national team coach Juan Carlos Osorio told Bild.

"He now shows what he can do," he said, and added: "He is a predator."

Hernandez, 27, has revived his career at Leverkusen, where he scored 19 goals in 22 appearances for the Bundesliga club.

The Mexico international joined Bayer from Manchester United in the final days of the 2015 summer transfer window for a reported transfer fee of €12 million, when he felt little chance of getting into the United team under manager Louis van Gaal.

His performance in Germany has not gone unnoticed in the rest of Europe, and he has already been linked with a return to Premier League. But Leverkusen have ruled out selling Hernandez.

The attacker has said that "you can never know what happens."

Speaking to Bild in Bayer's winter training camp in Orlando, Mexico boss Osorio, who took charge of the national team last autumn, said that Hernandez has made the next step at Leverkusen.

"Already when he was Manchester United and Real Madrid, I always thought that he has to quality to be a finisher,' the 54-year-old said. "There are several good goal getters who can score great goals, and he belongs to the top category in the world.

"He is a predator in front of the goal."

The Mexico boss praised Hernandez for "now showing what he can do."

"I never doubted him, but you have to achieve [a scoring rate] in such a strong league. It's fantastic, I hope can continue his run, also for the national team."

Osorio also elaborated on Hernandez's future, saying that the attacker was "experienced enough" to make his own decisions, and in any case had already shown he can do that.

"Leverkusen was a very good decision. He has once again shown that he can make good decision for himself," Osorio said. "I can only wish for him that he is at a club where he plays week in, week out, and scores many goals"
