Tottenham handed AEL Europa tie

Sevilla won last season's Europa League in Turin.

Tottenham Hotspur's new manager Mauricio Pochettino must negotiate a playoff against Cypriot side AEL Limassol for a place in the group stages of the Europa League.

Legia Warsaw to appeal UEFA decision

Pochettino joined Spurs from Southampton in the summer and has been tasked with getting the London club back into the Champions League for the first time in four years -- something which, for the first time this season, can be achieved by winning UEFA's secondary competition.

Spurs reached the quarterfinals of the Champions League in 2011, but have failed to make a return to the competition despite finishing fourth in the Premier League in 2012, when Chelsea lifted the trophy and thereby denied their London rivals a playoff place.

Spurs will travel to Cyprus for the first leg on Thursday Aug. 21, only Pochettino's second competitive match in charge, before hosting AEL at White Hart Lane a week later.

Elsewhere, Hull City will continue their maiden European campaign with a tie against KSC Lokeren.

The Tigers -- last season's FA Cup runners-up -- have been rewarded after overcoming AS Trencin in the third qualifying round.

Steve Bruce's side required a late goal from Sone Aluko in Thursday's second leg to secure their passage, and now face a trip to Belgium before welcoming back Lokeren to the KC Stadium.

Inter Milan make their return to European football this season and will kick off their campaign against Icelandic side Stjarnan.

The Nerazzurri failed to qualify for either the Champions League or Europa League in 2012-13 after finishing ninth, but Walter Mazzarri will be keen to re-establish the Serie A outfit in Europe once again.

A number of other big names have also entered the Europa League at the playoff stage.

Dutch sides PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord have been handed ties against Shakhtyor and Zorya respectively, while Ligue 1 outift Lyon will face Astra.

Elsewhere, La Liga's Real Sociedad have been pitted against Krasnodar, while fellow Spanish club Villarreal take on Astana.

Meanwhile, despite qualifying for the Champions League playoff round on Wednesday after seeing off Celtic, Legia Warsaw now find themselves taking on Aktobe in the Europa League.

Celtic were reinstated back into Europe's top club competition in place of Legia on Friday morning after UEFA decided to overturn the Polish side's third qualifying round second-leg win over the Bhoys for fielding an ineligible player.

The playoff ties will be played on Aug. 21 and 28.
