Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski closing in on new contract - reports

Robert Lewandowski is set to sign a new Bayern Munich contract until 2021, according to reports in Germany.

Lewandowski, 27, joined Bayern on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund in 2014, when he signed a deal with the Bavarians until 2019.

The Poland international this season has scored 36 goals in 38 matches in all competitions for Bayern and has also impressed for his country, leading them to this summer's Euro 2016 as captain.

Such form saw him linked earlier in the season with a switch to Real Madrid, where one of his agents was seen in the VIP box at the Santiago Bernabeu in November.

After it was announced Bayern boss Pep Guardiola is to join Manchester City in the summer there were also reports that Lewandowski could follow the Catalan to the Premier League.

Lewandowski, however, told Sport Bild in February that he "noticed how [Bayern] has prepared for the future" and that he can "very well imagine putting pen to paper on a new deal" at the club.

And on Tuesday, two German outlets reported that he will become the next player at Bayern after David Alaba, Javi Martinez, Thomas Muller and Jerome Boateng to put pen to paper on a contract until 2021.

In his "My Bayern" column for Sport Bild, journalist Raimund Hinko claimed "first-class sources" confirmed to him that Lewandowski is set to sign a new Bayern deal until 2021, and incoming coach Carlo Ancelotti has already been informed about the news.

Sport 1 said that, according to their sources, Bayern managed a breakthrough in the contract talks with Lewandowski's representatives prior to the first leg of their Champions League round-of-16 clash with Juventus in February. But the outlet added that it may take some time -- maybe not until the end of the season -- until the contract is signed.
