Alexandre Pato interested in January Premier League transfer - sources

Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato has set his sights on a move to the Premier League when the January transfer window opens, sources have told ESPN FC.

Pato, 26, is expected to leave Corinthians in the New Year with the club willing to sell the former AC Milan star when his loan stay at Sao Paulo ends.

The forward has been on loan at Sao Paulo from Corinthians for the past two seasons, scoring 24 goals and recapturing the form which saw him win a big-money move to AC Milan in 2007.

Pato saw his progress at AC Milan hampered by a number of injuries and he returned to Brazil in 2012.

Corinthians are now ready to cash-in on Pato in January and his representatives have sounded out interest from Premier League clubs with the player keen to move to England.

Arsenal have been credited with an interest in Pato, but sources have told ESPN FC the Gunners are unlikely to pursue a move for the South American.

Tottenham and Liverpool have also been linked with Pato and they are aware that the player is available for around £11 million in the January transfer window.

Corinthians denied earlier this month that they had agreed a deal with Liverpool for Pato and it remains to be seen if Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is looking to bolster his attacking options in January after recently admitting he might wait until the summer before making any signings at Anfield.

Tottenham are in the market for striking reinforcements in January and they could consider a move for Pato should they miss out on top target Saido Berahino.
