Tottenham monitoring Saido Berahino situation at West Brom - sources

Tottenham Hotspur are ready to make a new move for West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino with contract talks stalling at The Hawthorns, sources have told ESPN FC.

Berahino was involved in a transfer saga involving Tottenham and West Brom during the summer transfer window with the player seeing a proposed move to White Hart Lane fail to materialise after handing in a transfer request.

Tottenham saw several offers for Berahino rejected in the summer with the player hitting out at West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace for blocking the deal on transfer deadline day.

West Brom hoped to tie down Berahino to a new deal once the summer transfer window closed, but talks between both parties have stalled.

Berahino is entering the final 18 months of his contract at The Hawthorns and West Brom were keen to secure the striker on a long-term deal knowing his value could drop if he continues to run down his contract.

Tottenham remain keen on the England under-21 international with head coach Mauricio Pochettino a confirmed admirer of Berahino, while Newcastle are also keeping tabs on his situation as they plan to sign a new striker in January.

Both clubs feel the longer the contract stand-off goes on the better it is for their chances of persuading West Brom to cash-in on Berahino.

Pochettino is on the lookout for striking reinforcements in January and, with Tottenham looking well-placed to battle for a top-four finish this season, the club could decide to try and push through a deal for Berahino to boost their aspirations of qualifying for next season's Champions League.
