West Brom reject Saido Berahino transfer request amid Spurs link

West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino has put in a written transfer request, which has been rejected by the club.

Berahino, 22, has been attracting the interest of Tottenham and the England under-21 international was left out of the West Brom squad for Sunday's 3-2 defeat to Chelsea, with boss Tony Pulis saying the player was unsettled by all the transfer speculation.

A statement on the club website read: "West Bromwich Albion have received a written transfer request from Saido Berahino. The request has been rejected and the club's position remains unchanged from that outlined in the statement from chairman Jeremy Peace of Aug. 18. There will be no further comment."

West Brom announced last week that they had rejected an initial bid, believed to be £15 million, from Tottenham for Berahino but sources told ESPN FC that Tottenham are expected to offer £21m this week.

Berahino came through the youth ranks at The Hawthorns, having made his debut in August 2012, and spent time on loan at Northampton, Brentford and Peterborough.

He has made 83 appearances and scored 29 goals for the Baggies.
