Real Madrid target David De Gea considering Manchester United future

David De Gea admitted he is waiting to discover whether he will be a Manchester United or a Real Madrid player next season.

De Gea, 24, faces a decision whether to remain at Old Trafford or to return to his native Spain.

The goalkeeper, whose current deal with United expires in 2016, has been offered a lucrative extension and manager Louis van Gaal, who said after the 1-1 draw with Arsenal that he felt powerless to persuade him to stay, then claimed five days later that he was confident of keeping the Spain international.

And Real's captain and long-serving shot-stopper Iker Casillas vowed last week to stay and fight for his place if De Gea arrived and claimed he recommended his compatriot to the 10-time European champions.

"We'll see what happens with my future," De Gea said after being named Hijo Adoptivo de Castilla-La Mancha (Adopted Son of Castilla-La Mancha) .

"Now I am on holiday and I am very happy for this recognition."

Both De Gea and Casillas will join up with the Spain squad for the friendly against Costa Rica and the Euro 2016 qualifier versus Belarus.

De Gea, who was named United's player of the year for a second successive season, has made 175 appearances since joining from Atletico Madrid in 2011.

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech is a potential replacement for him at Old Trafford after his agent, Victor Kolar, said his client would be interested in a move to United.

Manager Louis van Gaal also has another Spain international goalkeeper, Victor Valdes, in his squad after signing Barcelona's triple Champions League winner in the January transfer window.
