Kaka urges Iker Casillas to join Major League Soccer from Porto

Iker Casillas has been urged by former teammate Kaka to make a move to Major League Soccer.

Orlando City SC striker Kaka has urged Iker Casillas to make a move to Major League Soccer next season, adding that the United States' top flight will soon be the best in the world.

Casillas, 34, played with Kaka at Real Madrid for four seasons, before the Brazilian left the Bernabeu to play for AC Milan again in 2013.

The Spaniard left Real to join FC Porto in the summer of 2015 and told Kaka he was interested in MLS, but that he still wanted to play in Europe for the time being.

"I would like Casillas to come [to MLS] next year, but he told me he wants to stay in Portugal and play a little bit," Kaka told Cadena Cope.

"I think he likes the idea of coming to play here. In five or 10 years, the MLS will be the strongest in the world."

For now Casillas is finishing out the season with Porto, where he has just been offered a new one-year contract extension. The longtime first-choice for the Spain national team is also mired in a battle with Manchester United's David De Gea to determine who manager Vicente del Bosque will pick to lead La Roja at the Euros in France this summer.

"I'm [almost] 35 and [De Gea] is 25," Casillas said. "He has the world in front of him and he has longer to go than I do. He has things that I don't have, and vice versa. It is a luxury to have goalkeepers like De Gea.

"Other national teams do not have this competition. We are in good hands here with Spain. There is Sergio Rico, Adrian... We are relaxed. [Gianluigi] Buffon does not have such competition with Italy, but in Spain it is different."

Kaka recently found success luring another former teammate to MLS, when Julio Baptista signed a contract to play alongside his Brazil countryman in Orlando. The two had played together at Sao Paulo in the Brazilian league.

"Julio Baptista is a great friend who was without a club, so I told him to come and train with us," Kaka said.
