Ex-Real Madrid forward Julio Baptista signs with Orlando City, club confirms

Former Brazil international Julio Baptista has signed with Major League Soccer club Orlando City SC, the team announced on Wednesday.

Baptista, 34, has played for European clubs Real Madrid, Arsenal, Roma and Sevilla over the course of his career and most recently played for Brazilian club Cruzeiro, where he played in just 36 games over a two-year spell before his contract expired in December 2015.

"Julio is a strong, physical and tactical player who will provide us with more depth and options in the forward positions," OCSC coach Adrian Heath said of the acquisition.

"We enjoyed having him train with us earlier this month, and are very pleased with the decision to bring him on board fulltime."

Orlando City teammate Kaka welcomed Baptista to the franchise via Twitter on Tuesday, posting: "Another life and career moment that we'll course together!"

Baptista arrival marks the second signing of one of Kaka's former teammates, following Antonio Nocerino's recent move from AC Milan in February.

Baptista made 48 international appearances for Brazil and scored five goals, including one in the final of the Selecao's 3-0 Copa America final defeat of Argentina in the 2007 edition.
