Liverpool's Adam Lallana has groin strain, expected back by end of month

Liverpool expect Adam Lallana to return from injury before the end of the month after scans revealed the midfielder only suffered a minor groin strain.

Lallana was forced to withdraw from the England squad with the issue on Tuesday and will miss upcoming encounters with Spain and Switzerland.

However, Liverpool believe the injury will only sideline the 30-year-old "for the short-term" and, therefore, he could "come back into contention for the Reds before the end of September."

"It's a minor setback, which isn't ideal, as I've been in great shape until now, but it's positive news that it's only a brief layoff," Lallana told Liverpool's official website.

"I'm pleased I'll be back available for Liverpool, both domestically and in the Champions League during September, and then England again for the next break.

"I know I can make a significant contribution over the course of a long season and that's where my focus will remain -- with so much to play for.

"Doing my best and giving everything for my teammates, management and supporters of club and country is all that matters."

Lallana was limited to just three starts in all competitions for Liverpool last season, having dealt with hamstring and thigh injuries.

He has only made one outing for Liverpool in 2018-19 so far -- coming off the substitutes' bench against Crystal Palace in the 87th minute.

Meanwhile, Simon Mignolet has had to withdraw from the Belgium squad through injury. But the goalkeeper should be available when Liverpool play Tottenham Hotspur on Sept. 15.
