Liverpool have enough quality for two starting XIs - Lucas Leiva

Lucas Leiva believes Liverpool are well equipped in every position on the pitch this season after adding depth to their squad over the summer.

The Reds signed seven new players during the transfer window with the signings of Sadio Mane, Georginio Wijnaldum, Joel Matip and Loris Karius improving manager Jurgen Klopp's options.

Lucas, who recently said he is fully fit after recovering from a hamstring injury, feels the team have the resources available to field two adequate starting XIs.

"I think it's clear that we have very good players in every single position," he told the club's official website. "And not just one good player, I would say we have two teams you could put out to get you results.

"Of course the Premier League is very difficult, but I think the squad we have, with the new players who have made us stronger -- hopefully it's going to be a very good season for the club."

Liverpool have had an inconsistent start to their Premier League campaign. Their impressive win at Arsenal on the opening weekend of the season was followed up with an abject defeat at Burnley before Klopp's side were unfortunate to only leave Tottenham Hotspur with just a point.

"Of course it could be better," the 29-year-old added. "Especially the Spurs game -- we had a chance to win the game. The Burnley game was a strange one because we had a lot of the ball.

"I think it's an OK beginning. We've played three games away from home in a row, and against two teams who will challenge for the top four and the title, so it's not bad.

"But we need to get points and win games in a row as soon as possible because we want to be higher in the table."

Saturday sees the Reds play their first home game of the season as they welcome champions Leicester City to Anfield after the international break.
