Liverpool's Lucas Leiva ready to return to action after hamstring injury

Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva believes he is in the best shape possible after recovering from a hamstring injury that forced him to sit out the start of the Premier League season.

Lucas, 29, limped off in a preseason friendly against Huddersfield Town back in July, but last week made his comeback in a 45-minute cameo for the Reds' under-23 side at Arsenal.

The Brazilian was then named as a substitute for the first team's trip to Tottenham Hotspur the following day and now believes he will be ready for action when called upon by manager Jurgen Klopp.

"I'm 100 percent I would say," he told the club's official website. "I didn't miss much, to be honest -- I was only out for three-and-a-half weeks. I did a lot of training after that, played 45 minutes for the U23s and was on the bench the last game [at Tottenham]. I'm ready to go.

"I think I had a very good preseason. I missed part of it but I think I've recovered. Now with the international break I have another two weeks to train hard and I feel very fit."

Lucas added: "If I had had to start the game, Spurs would probably be too early because I played 45 minutes for the U23s the day before, but if I'd have had to come on I would have been fine.

"As I said, I have two weeks to work more and be ready. I would say I'm now ready to play 90 minutes."

After spending the majority of his career as a deep-lying midfielder, Lucas is now seen as an adequate option at centre-back by Klopp, having filled in there numerous times throughout last season.
