Paul Pogba 'ready' to renew Juventus contract, says agent Mino Raiola

Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba is ready to renew his contract with the club if no other interesting options arise this summer, says the player's agent Mino Raiola.

Pogba has long been the subject of transfer speculation over the past two years, with the Turin club reportedly putting a €100-million asking price on the star midfielder after rejecting a reported €90m for him last summer.

Former teammate Andrea Pirlo agrees that it will take a world-record fee to sign the player.

Since moving to Turin from Manchester United in the summer of 2012, the 23-year-old France international has grown into one of Europe's finest players, winning three Scudettos and helping the Bianconeri to the Champions League final last season.

In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport on Thursday, Raiola said his client is ready to remain at his current club past this summer's transfer window.

"Nothing has changed for Paul compared to a year ago. Juventus and Paul are on the same page here," Raiola said.

"If nobody can offer him an adequate project, then he'd be better off staying. In fact, we're even ready to renew his contract."

Pogba was given the No. 10 shirt this season, once worn by club legends Alessandro Del Piero and Michel Platini. With Pogba more in the forefront, the four-time defending Serie A champs are on pace for a fifth consecutive league title.

"Paul has surprised me in a positive way over the past few seasons. He was a talent before, but he is the real deal now, he is a champion through and through.

"His calm and serene attitude is one of his biggest strengths, that also helped him deal with the criticism at the start of this season.

"He has given his best wearing the No. 10 jersey, despite some misunderstandings at the start of the season."

Also on Thursday, former Juventus manager Marcello Lippi says the funds earned in selling Pogba would enable the club to rebuild a squad strong enough to succeed -- just like he did when Zinedine Zidane was sold.

Zidane left Juve for Real Madrid in 2001, but the Turin-based club nevertheless picked up their first Scudetto in four years without the Frenchman, clinching the title again the following season, when they also reached the final of the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Juventus midfielder Andrea Pirlo said he believes Pogba is worth the potential world-record fee for his services, and called his former teammate the best young player he'd ever seen.

Speaking to The Mirror, the New York City FC man said: "Of course, Juventus will want to keep him. But sometimes you can get to a transfer fee that you can rebuild an entire team with and he would get to that fee.

"At his age, you can build a team around him for the next years. If he does decide to leave, then I think it will be for a world record."

Pirlo continued: "I have played with some great young players, but Pogba was the best young player I have ever seen.

"We saw from his first training session with Juventus that he was special. There was a disbelief among the senior players that Manchester United had allowed him to leave.

"Since then he has grown physically and as a player. For me he is now the most complete central midfield player in the world."
