Borussia Dortmund's Marco Reus pulls out of Germany squad with ankle injury

Marco Reus has pulled out of Germany's squad for their upcoming internationals as a fresh ankle injury has ruled the Borussia Dortmund player out for two weeks.

Reus, 25, starred in Dortmund's 1-0 win against Borussia Monchengladbach on Sunday despite failing to score, hitting the woodwork twice and firing a total of eight shots at Yann Sommer's goal.

Reus was set to rejoin Die Nationalmannschaft on Monday for the first time since suffering an ankle injury during the final minutes of Germany's victory against Scotland in early September.

The 2014 World Cup winners face Gibraltar in a Euro 2016 qualifier on Friday, before travelling to Spain for a friendly on Nov. 18.

But the in-demand star -- who has yet to make a decision about his club future -- stayed in Dortmund where he underwent an examination with BVB club doctor Markus Braun.

"Germany international Marco Reus suffered a ligament and tendon sprain, as well as an oedema (swelling) in his left ankle during the Bundesliga match between BVB and Borussia Monchengladbach," Dortmund announced on their official website.

"BVB club doctor Markus Braun expects that the midfielder will return to action in a fortnight. Marco Reus will stay in Dortmund for rehabilitation training, and is not available to take part in the matches against Gibraltar and Spain."

Chelsea attacker Andre Schurrle pulled out of the national squad on Sunday to work on his fitness in London, while Schalke midfielder Julian Draxler suffered a tendon injury last week and is also not available for Joachim Low.
