France blame Bayern needle culture for Ribery injury (1:36)

France team doctor Franck Le Gall thinks there is a possibility forward Franck Ribery could have played at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, if he wasn't afraid of injections. (1:36)

Franck Ribery has not ruled out a return to the France national team for the 2016 European Championships, the Bayern Munich winger told kicker.

Ribery, 32, retired from international duty after having made 81 appearances for his country in August 2014, right after the World Cup in Brazil that year -- which he missed with a back injury.

In the post-World Cup season Ribery only made 15 league appearances for Bayern because of several injuries, and in March 2015 an ankle injury sidelined him for almost the rest of the year.

He only briefly returned in December, but sustained a muscle injury and only made his latest return to the pitch in mid-February.

"Didier Deschamps will bring the best players to the Euros," Ribery told a news conference in Munich on Tuesday. "I'm here. I'm coming back well. We'll see. I'm very happy to be back on the pitch."

Speaking to kicker following the news conference on Tuesday, Ribery reiterated that he feels fine again, and hopes to return to the national team.

"I've read that Didier Deschamps wants to bring the best players to the Euros. Point. I play again at FC Bayern, and have reached my old level 100 percent," Ribery said. "But before you can even consider a return to the national team, there'd have to be a talk with coach Didier Deschamps. This is the first requirement. If you now write that I want to return, then that's not exactly right. There'd need to be several talks first."

But on Saturday the France boss was not up for discussing the winger's future in the national team.

"He's just come back," Deschamps said "He hadn't played for practically a year... At the moment, it's pointless talking about it. If I say to you "we'll see", you're going to think that I'm opening the door. I'm not opening anything at all."

But in L'Equipe French Football Federation president Noel Le Graet said that he welcomed the idea of Ribery's return.

"I'm very happy to see him come back to a very good level and to hear that he's contemplating playing for Les Bleus again," Le Graet said. "Everyone has the right to change their mind. After that, it's up to Didier to see."
