David Nakhid to appeal over FIFA rejection of presidential candidacy

David Nakhid will appeal against FIFA's decision to disqualify him from being a presidential candidate at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The former Trinidad and Tobago player's legal team will take his case to the court after his candidacy was ruled out because world football's governing body said he had the support of four football associations rather than the required five.

Nakhid, 51, believes he was backed by five -- but FIFA said the U.S. Virgin Islands had backed two candidates, invalidating that nomination.

The court is likely to deliver its verdict within the next few weeks, with the presidential election scheduled to take place on Feb. 26.

On Thursday, FIFA ruled that Musa Bility could not run for election following integrity checks.

It did not make its reasons public and it remains to be seen whether Bility, the president of the Liberian Football Association, will appeal against the decision.

FIFA has declared Prince Ali Al Hussein, Sheikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, Jerome Champagne, Gianni Infantino and Tokyo Sexwale eligible to run.

Michel Platini's application will be considered after his 90-day provisional suspension by Fifa's ethics committee has expired.
