Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola said he was "proud" to be in charge of the Bundesliga champions after watching them round off a fine week with a comfortable 4-0 win at Werder Bremen on Saturday.

Bayern, who crushed Shakhtar Donetsk 7-0 in the second leg of their Champions League clash on Wednesday, returned to domestic competition in confident mood, with strikes from Thomas Muller and David Alaba giving them a two-goal interval cushion.

And after a few scares at the start of the second half, Robert Lewandowski struck twice to keep Bayern on course for a third straight league title.

Speaking at his postmatch news conference, reported on Bayern's official website, Guardiola said: "After the match against Donetsk, it wasn't easy adapting to new opponents.

"It was one of those days when I'm so proud to be coach of this team.

"The team maintained total concentration throughout and did very, very well."

Skipper Philipp Lahm, who came on as a substitute as he returned to the first team following an injury layoff, said: "It was great to be back out on the pitch after such a long time away.

"Many thanks to the team, because I think if it had been tighter I wouldn't have had the chance to come on."

Bremen's Sebastian Prodl praised his side's "ruthless" opponents, saying: "Bayern are superior in terms of quality and were very smart today. We tried to resist by being aggressive, and it worked well for long spells.

"But Bayern are ruthless. If they get a chance, they use it."
