Reina fee makes Napoli move 'difficult'

Pepe Reina was selected for Spain's World Cup squad after helping Napoli finish third in Serie A and win the Coppa Italia.

Pepe Reina faces an uncertain future after Napoli refused to meet Liverpool's asking price for the goalkeeper, who spent the last season on loan in Italy.

The Spaniard became surplus to requirements at Anfield last summer when manager Brendan Rodgers signed Simon Mignolet and installed the Belgium international as his first-choice goalkeeper.

Former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez took Reina to Napoli but, although the Coppa Italia winners want to make his move permanent, they have been unable to agree a fee for the 31-year-old -- and his agent believes he could now leave the San Paolo.

"It's very difficult for Pepe to remain at Napoli," said Reina's agent, Manuel Garcia Quilon.

"From June 30, he will return to Liverpool because they want to maximise his sale, and Napoli are not willing to spend what is required."

Rodgers has reportedly been linked with his former Swansea goalkeeper Michel Vorm as he looks for an alternative to Mignolet, and any signing would suggest Reina has no future at Anfield.

Reina made 41 appearances for Napoli last season, helping them finish third in Serie A and win the Coppa Italia.

He had been Liverpool's regular goalkeeper for the previous eight seasons, playing 394 times after his arrival from Villarreal in 2005.
