Palermo coach Walter Novellino confirms he's been sacked

Walter Novellino has confirmed that he has been sacked as coach of Palermo after just a month in charge of the Sicilian club.

With one draw and three defeats on his record, Novellino becomes the ninth managerial change made by the Serie A club's president Maurizio Zamparini.

"I can confirm that I've been relieved of my duties," Novellino told Calciomercato.it. "I can only say that I'm very sad and disappointed. I'd like to thank the lads, the fans and the management."

Former coach Davide Ballardini, who lasted little over a month between November and January, is expected to be recalled for a second stint in charge this season, despite the differences he had with goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino which led to him being replaced by Guillermo Schelotto earlier this year.

If confirmed, he will become the second coach to be given a second chance by Zamparini this season after Beppe Iachini returned for just three weeks, prior to Novellino's appointment last month.

Palermo have yet to make an official statement on Novellino's future or a potential ninth managerial change this season.

The Rosaneri are inside the relegation zone behind Carpi because of an inferior head-to-head record with six games of the season remaining.
