Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola to confirm plans next week

Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola has confirmed he will announce his future plans next week amid speculation linking him with Manchester City and Manchester United.

Guardiola's three-year contract with Bayern is due to expire at the end of the season and club officials had said his future would be decided before the end of 2015.

The former Barcelona coach said after his side's 1-0 DFB Pokal victory over Darmstadt on Tuesday night that he would make an announcement next week.

"Tonight, I have no answer," he is quoted as telling ARD. "Next week, you will know the answer. Next week there will be clarity."

Former Bayern boss Ottmar Hitzfeld has said he expects Guardiola to take over at City, while Franz Beckenbauer, the club's honorary president, recently suggested United may be more tempting if he does move on.

Sources told ESPN FC at the weekend that United have significantly increased contact with Guardiola.

Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge had previously remained non-committal on Guardiola's future, saying: "There will be a Christmas surprise -- either way."

Former Bayern coach Felix Magath, meanwhile, has said Uli Hoeness would not have tolerated Guardiola's procrastination over the contract renewal.

Hoeness was Bayern president when Guardiola was appointed in 2013 but was imprisoned after being found guilty of tax evasion the following year.

Magath, who won both the Bundesliga title and DFB Pokal in 2004-05 and 2005-06 with Bayern, told Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung: "He has more power than any other Bayern coach before him. I think that's only possible because Uli Hoeness is no longer there.

"[His refusal to announce his plans] shows that he has more pull. That would not have been possible under Hoeness. He would never have allowed a coach to get that much power. He only accepted a coach when he kept the balance of power."
