Luis Enrique 'returns home happy' after 100th Barcelona win as manager

Luis Enrique chalked up his 100th win as Barcelona manager on Sunday as the Catalan side extended their winning start to the new La Liga season with a 1-0 victory at Athletic Bilbao.

Ivan Rakitic scored the only goal of the game at San Mames, heading home a fine Arda Turan cross in the 21st minute to ensure Barca go into the international break with six points from a possible six.

However, the victory was far from straightforward and Luis Enrique bemoaned the amount of mistakes committed by his players in the first half.

"The rhythm of the game was frenetic, which isn't usual for this stage of the season," he said in his postmatch news conference.

"We knew Athletic were going to press us high and they made it difficult for us to bring the ball out.

"We committed errors at the beginning [of the game], but we will have to analyse if that was our fault or whether it was through Athletic's good work.

"But we did overcome their pressing many times and that's where the goal came from, which was spectacular."

The success in Bilbao brought up a century of wins for the Barca boss in just his 126th game in charge -- it took Pep Guardiola 139 games.

It could have been a much easier win, though, with a number of chances given up in the second half.

Luis Suarez was particularly guilty, missing two gilt-edged openings as Barca failed to shut the the game down in the Basque rain.

"I would have liked to have had more control of the game," Luis Enrique said.

"We were against a great side, but we still could have closed the game down earlier and I think we should have because we created a lot of chances which we didn't take advantage of.

"But it's difficult to play here against a rival of this magnitude and we return home happy. These points were well deserved."

Barca now have a two week wait until their next game, with newly promoted Alaves due at Camp Nou on Sept. 10 after the international break.
