Black Rhinos reclaimed top spot in the Zimbabwe Premier League following a stunning 3-0 win over giants Highlanders on Wednesday.

The army side are now tied on 26 points with Ngezi Platinum, who have an inferior goal difference. Ngezi play Dynamos on Thursday evening and will aim to regain the ascendancy.

Highlanders had gone into the encounter at Morris Depot looking to get over a troubled spell, which has seen two of their last five matches being abandoned due to crowd trouble.

There was to be no respite for the Bulawayo giants however, with top-flight returnees Rhinos showing little respect for their adversaries with a virtuoso display.

Lot Chiwunga thrust Rhinos into the lead with a well-placed header just before the break, and the in-form hitman returned to hound the Bosso defence moments after resumption as he pounced on a rebound to double his side's lead.

Rhinos goalkeeper Herbet Rusawo then converted from the spot with 20 minutes to go as Stix Mutizwa's team ran out comfortable winners to make it 15 points in the bag from a possible 18.

In Bulawayo, Rahman Gumbo's Chicken Inn overcame ZPC Kariba 2-0 for a fourth consecutive victory, which lifts them into third place with 24 points.

Defender Guide Goddard and former Hwange midfielder Innocent Mucheneka scored either side of the break to subdue Kariba, who slipped into fourth place after a third defeat in their last five matches.

There was no joy for Norman Mapeza's FC Platinum, who chalked up a seventh draw in 12 matches after stuttering to a goalless draw against visiting Harare City at Mandava.

Platinum are the only side yet to taste defeat in the league, yet they are barely living up to their pre-season 'title favourites' tag, with Wednesday's result leaving them fifth in the standings on 21 points.

Mapeza could not hide his frustration after the match, particularly in the face of an astonishing last-minute miss by midfielder Gerald Takwara.

"It's getting worrisome. I can't keep dropping points at home," he told the media. "I think its two points lost. We could have done better with the last minute opportunity but we simply need to keep working hard."

Sugarcane farmers Triangle scored three quick goals in the second-half to seal a 3-1 win over Shabanie Mine at Gibbo.

Veteran defender Guthrie Zhokinyu opened the scoring just before the hour mark, and substitute Courage Denias then netted twice inside five minutes to set Triangle on the way to only their third win of the campaign.

Dylan Chivandire scored the consolation from the spot for Shabanie.
