Cahill had feared that FIFA would hand down a two-match suspension following his late tackle on Bastian Schweinsteiger, which would probably have ruled him out of the tournament considering Australia's drubbing in their first game.

But Cahill will now be available to face Serbia in his country's final group game on June 23.

Australia asked FIFA for leniency over the ban, and Schweinsteiger sent a letter backing the their position. He sought Cahill out following the match to tell him he thought the red card was undeserved.

At the same meeting, FIFA confirmed South Africa goalkeeper Itumeleg Khune will receive a one-match ban after his red card against Uruguay on Wednesday.
