'Glass man' Arjen Robben should be dropped by Netherlands - De Mos

Former Ajax coach Aad de Mos has urged Danny Blind to no longer select captain Arjen Robben for Netherlands, calling the Bayern Munich winger "the glass man."

De Mos criticised Robben's injury record after he was ruled out of the latest World Cup qualifiers with a rib injury.

"Danny Blind has to pray for a week that Robben can play against Belarus and France. Now he's got a rib problem, but there's always something wrong," he told Het Laatste Nieuws.

"He hasn't played in an international in over a year, yet everyone is still waiting for 'the glass man.'

"Therefore, it's time to say goodbye to him. The players get the feeling they can only prosper with Robben, but that's obviously not the case.

"Robben's time with Oranje is over -- as it is for others of his generation such as [Robin] Van Persie and [Klaas-Jan] Huntelaar. Wesley Sneijder is still important, but he's on his last legs."

Robben, 32, suffered the rib injury on his first Bayern Munich start in almost seven months against Cologne last Saturday, coming off at half time in the 1-1 Bundesliga draw.

Bayern coach Carlo Ancelotti said the injury was "nothing serious," but Robben had to pull out of Netherlands' Group A qualifiers.

Robben has won 88 caps but has not played for his country in almost a year since a 3-2 friendly win against Wales in November 2015.
