Platini: No 2022 World Cup decision due

There will be no decision made on switching the date of the 2022 World Cup made at FIFA’s executive meeting this week, Michel Platini has claimed.

FIFA’s executive committee were expected to make a decision in principle during a meeting in Zurich on October 3 and 4 about whether the tournament, which is set to be hosted in Qatar, could be altered to take place during the middle of the European football season.

The issue has caused major controversy with FIFA, UEFA, the IOC and domestic football associations all keen to protect the best interests of their individual competitions.

However, speaking at FIFA headquarters in Zurich, UEFA president Platini has now warned not to expect a final agreement to be made imminently, saying: "There will be no decision. It is impossible.

"We must wait to see what proposal president [Sepp] Blatter will bring to the executive committee."

Platini was keen, though, to talk about allegations that the infrastructure being put in place for the tournament by Qatari companies had employed staff on a basis that amounted to slave labour, saying: "I'm much more concerned about that than the discussion about summer and winter.

"I prefer to discuss this at the Exco [rather] than in the press."
