Van Gaal hails quick Netherlands

Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal has hailed the efficiency of his teams as they became the first European team to qualify for the 2014 World Cup.

• Highlights: Andorra 0-2 Netherlands (US, UK, Ire, Caribbean, Pac)Video

Manchester United striker Robin van Persie was the hero for the Dutch as his double sealed a 2-0 victory over Andorra.

But following the match, Van Gaal praised his entire squad as they secured qualification with two games to spare.

The undefeated Dutch lead Group D in European qualification by eight points, only dropping two points in eight games.

"We have done the job,” Van Gaal was reported as saying by EuroSport. “We could not have qualified quicker for the World Cup than the way we did. We are the first from Europe."

On the game against Austria, Van Gaal added: "We did very well. We gave our all in the first half and we made the breakthrough after the interval. That's just how we wanted it."
