Tottenham's Kieran Trippier leaves England squad due to injury

England have announced that Kieran Trippier has returned to Tottenham Hotspur due to injury.

Trippier once again sat out training on Thursday morning as preparations continued ahead of Friday's World Cup qualifier against Malta.

He missed the session at St George's Park, as he had on Tuesday, due to an injury and will not fly with the squad to Malta.

A message on England's Twitter account read: "@trippier2 has returned to @SpursOfficial, having not trained this week due to an injury picked up on club duty."

Fellow defender Phil Jones and midfielders Jake Livermore and Nathaniel Chalobah had also been absent on Tuesday due to minor injuries, but each of that trio were involved on Thursday.

Raheem Sterling, linked with a switch from Manchester City to Arsenal, also trained on Thursday among what was a full squad aside from Trippier and goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Everton's Pickford had already withdrawn through injury earlier in the week.
