Chris Coleman doesn't understand 'fuss' over Ben Woodburn call-up

Chris Coleman says he does not understand the "fuss" around calling up Ben Woodburn to the Wales squad.

Woodburn, 17, was included in Wales' 23-man squad for the World Cup qualifier with Republic of Ireland.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp voiced concerns about the first-time call-up for the club's youngster ever goal scorer, and said Coleman did not call him before making his decision.

However, Coleman says Woodburn has "coped" with the demands of international football so far, insisting there is nothing to worry about.

"He's done well, he's coped well, I knew he'd be OK," Coleman said. "He's training with Liverpool every day, I didn't really see all the fuss about calling him in.

"He's at Liverpool, a Champions League-chasing team, why the fuss, we've called him in? We'll look after him just like we do all our players."

Coleman has previously been adamant the decision to include Chester-born Woodburn is entirely down to football reasons as opposed to beating other nations to his international commitment.
