Germany keen on England friendly

Germany hope to play two prestigious friendlies during the international window for the 2014 World Cup play-off matches in November.

Speaking after Germany’s 3-0 victory against Faroe Islands in Torshavn, coach Joachim Low confirmed the Football Association's plans to arrange two non-competitive matches in the winter.

"Italy, I think, in any case," Low told ARD TV on Tuesday, when questioned about possible opponents for the international window. "And also England. If those nations don’t have to go into the play-offs. Then the situation will be different.

"But I’d like to think both will top their groups and then we’ll have two fantastic games in November."

In January 2013, German FA president Wolfgang Niersbach said they intended to line up friendlies in Italy and England.

It would be the first time they have met England since the 2010 World Cup last-16 match, which Germany won 4-1. It would also be Germany’s second game at the new Wembley Stadium after they triumphed 2-1 in 2007.

While Germany have won three and lost three against England since 2000, they have not beaten Italy in over 18 years, having endured two major defeats in the 2006 World Cup semi-final and the Euro 2012 semi-final.
