Brazil cautious with Coutinho due to Liverpool-Barcelona talks - Gaspar

Brazil national team coordinator Edu Gaspar has told ESPN that the CBF is aiming to treat the preparation and training of Philippe Coutinho with caution so as not to influence any transfer negotiation with the player, Barcelona or Liverpool.

Coutinho was passed fit for Brazil's upcoming World Cup qualifiers, despite the midfielder not having played for Liverpool this season because of a stated back injury.

Coutinho, 25, is attempting to force through a move to Barcelona and has been the club's main transfer target this summer, with the Reds turning down three bids for him thus far, with the latest being worth a total of £118 million.

Though he has not appeared in any of Liverpool's four games on the young campaign, he was called into Tite's Brazil squad for the team's matches against Ecuador and Colombia on Aug. 31 and Sept. 5, respectively.

"It's been 15 days since we called Philippe Coutinho to join our national team. At the time, he was in a very different situation. He was training for Liverpool," Gaspar said. "Even if he was negotiating with Barcelona, he was still training.

"After he came to the national team, something more complex came around in the negotiation and we had to be very careful so we wouldn't get involved in it."

A CBF spokesman on Monday said the former Inter Milan man was without any injuries and cleared him to begin training on Tuesday.

"We decided to give him a physical evaluation with our doctor, Rodrigo Lasmar. If the doctor said he was good to get back to training, we would clear him for that. [And that's what happened]," Gaspar said.

"The doctor said he was good and since he was already doing the physical work, with less ball contact, we did a transition so he would be able, on the next day, to get back to normal practice with the group. So, under our power, we are guiding the situation in this way, thinking about the athlete, if he feels good and comfortable."

Despite Liverpool refusing all three of Barcelona's offers, reports suggest Coutinho's departure from Anfield is likely, whether it takes place this summer or next.

"We thought about the team too, because since he's physically and mentally healthy, he will give us a better football," Gaspar said. "We had a meeting with Tite and Coutinho [about this subject] so we wouldn't create a new problem, because that would be completely unnecessary."
