Barcelona's Neymar being used incorrectly by Brazil - Zico

Brazil are misusing Neymar by playing him in a central position and it is hurting the national side as well their star player's form, according to Zico.

Dunga's Brazil are currently sixth in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying, having won just two of their opening six matches.

Legendary Selecao attacking midfielder Zico is concerned about his nation's form, in particular how Barcelona forward Neymar, who has scored 23 times in La Liga this season, is being used.

He told Brasil Global Tour: "I believe the team lacks leadership on the pitch. Dunga knows about this as he once was the guy who did it.

"Looking at the last match [2-2 draw with Paraguay], he had three players up front that move constantly, and they are very skilful players.

"But, in my opinion, Neymar should play the same position he is at Barcelona. He's unbeatable at that spot, he does the best work cutting in from the left.

"If he plays in the middle with his back to the goal, he sometimes pulls something out but it's not the same.

"So I would use either Willian or Douglas Costa, Neymar on the left, and another player as a striker, someone who is used to playing, someone who is used to playing in the box and knows where to find the space and score goals.

"Playing Neymar with his back to the goal is a huge waste, and he quickly gets annoyed as he wins a lot of fouls.

"Psychologically, this has been a problem. He's missing too many matches for the Selecao. So he may be way more productive for Brazil playing out wide.

"Brazil's psychological side has been disappointing and the team isn't doing well in adversity."

Asked about the form of Chelsea winger Willian, who has been in superb form for Brazil of late, Zico added: "If Willian keeps evolving like he has, there's no doubt he will be a Selecao star."
