Argentina's Gerardo Martino: Brazil a positive performance; we need points

Argentina coach Gerardo Martino was encouraged by his team's attacking intent in their 1-1 draw with Brazil but knows it is only results that matter as they remain winless in three World Cup qualifiers.

Ezequiel Lavezzi put Argentina ahead 33 minutes into the rearranged match in Buenos Aires, but Lima's 58th minute equaliser ensured the spoils were shared, despite the late dismissal of David Luiz.

"It was a positive performance, but from the points [view] no," the former Barcelona boss told the media. "We need to win in Colombia.

"The team made an effort throughout the match to win, this was highlighted in the first half. They [Brazil] had an effectiveness that we did not."

"If the response is that we must stand up, so be it."

Brazil are only slightly better off than Argentina with four points from their three qualifiers so far, but could be happier with a point from a trip to face their old rivals.

"Playing in the Monumental (stadium) is very difficult,'' said Chelsea midfielder Willian. "We wanted to win this game against Argentina, but we got an important away point.

"We missed with some of our passing in the first half, and Argentina could take advantage of the counter-attacks. But in the second half we were better and almost turned the game.''
