Suarez hoping for World Cup spot

Luis Suarez believes a ‘happy’ return to the Liverpool squad will help him propel Uruguay into next year’s World Cup.

Suarez has made a stunning comeback from a 10-game ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic, scoring three goals in two games since returning to the Premier League.

And the 26-year-old hopes his recent form can be replicated in the international arena with Uruguay travelling to Ecuador and then hosting Argentina in their final games of South American World Cup qualifying.

However, Suarez admitted it would be a ‘difficult’ challenge to claim on of the automatic Brazil 2014 spots. 

“I feel very happy because I have returned to play at the club and that helps,” Suarez told reporters on his arrival in Montevideo.

“Playing in Quito is difficult and we are aware that they have a a lot at stake. We cannot be complacent, we are realistic.

“We have been winning and doing things right, but we cannot rely on anything.

“A couple of months ago we were resigned to the play-offs, now all we want, based on the good results, is qualifying outright.

“We know we have the team to push through qualifying to reach the World Cup.”
