2018 World Cup: Who has qualified for the finals and who can get there?

With 23 teams having qualified, there remain nine places to be clinched on the Road to Russia 2018.

The qualifying process for the 2018 World Cup, which began on March 12, 2015, is reaching its climax. 

So far, 23 nations have booked their place to join host nation Russia in next year's tournament.

Qualified nations: Russia (hosts), Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Egypt, England, France, Germany, Honduras, Iceland, Iran, Japan, Mexico, Nigeria, Panama, Poland, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, South Korea, Spain, Uruguay.

Former Colombia international Mauricio "Chicho" Serna has been named in a money laundering investigation in Argentina, according to media reports.

Clarin newspaper claim that Argentinian businessman and lawyer Mateo Corvo Dolcet mentioned the ex-Boca Juniors star's name during his preliminary statement regarding the case of the "gang of the Cafe de los Angelitos."

The All Whites will play the first leg of their intercontinental World Cup playoff against Peru in Wellington on Nov. 11, New Zealand Football confirmed on Sunday.

Governing body FIFA says the home leg will be staged at Westpac Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 11, with kick-off at 4.15pm local time.

The away leg will be played at the Estadio Nacional de Lima in Peru's capital on Nov. 15, with kick-off at 9.15pm local time.

NZF chief executive Andy Martin said he was pleased to finally have the dates confirmed.

ESPN FC's Gab Marcotti believes Jorge Sampaoli will employ his experience and make Argentina a force at Russia 2018.

The Ecuador Football Federation (FEF) has suspended five national team players indefinitely for indiscipline after they reportedly left their team hotel to go to a party ahead of Tuesday's 3-1 home defeat to Argentina in Quito.

In a statement on their official website the FEF named the players as Enner Valencia, Joao Plata, Gabriel Cortez, Robert Arboleda and John Cifuente.
