FIFA fines Costa Rica
FIFA on Wednesday fined the Costa Rica Football Federation more than $13,000 for catcalls and whistles made by fans during the United States' 3-1 CONCACAF qualifying loss Sept. 6 to Costa Rica in San Jose's stadium.
FIFA, which launched an investigation into the incident last month, said there would be no further penalties, ruling out any change to a scheduled hosting of Mexico on Oct. 15.
Costa Rican fans reportedly jeered during the U.S. national anthem, in violation of FIFA's rules.
Costa Rica and the United States have already qualified for the World Cup in the CONCACAF region.
