South Africa line up 2023 Women's World Cup bid

South Africa will look to add the FIFA Women's World Cup to their hosting records, according to football boss Danny Jordaan, who feels the infrastructure is already in place to stage the 2023 global event.

The country became the first African nation to host a men's FIFA World Cup when they welcomed the world in 2010, and Jordaan is determined to add the women's showpiece to the list as well.

The SAFA president, who was re-elected to his post last week, told assembled media on Thursday that bidding...

Samantha Kerr's late strike clinches Matildas' spot in Women's World Cup

Australia players celebrate after a Samantha Kerr goal against Japan clinched their spot in the World Cup.
Australia players celebrate after a Samantha Kerr goal clinched their spot in the Women's World Cup.

Matildas forward Sam Kerr has lifted her star power yet another level by scoring the goal which booked Australia's spot in next year's Women's World Cup in France.

An underperforming Matildas side looked set to exit the Asian Women's Cup and go into the lottery of a World Cup play-off until Kerr conjured up an equaliser to earn her side a 1-1 draw against Japan in Amman on Friday (Saturday AEST).

Kerr, who scored in a national record seven-successive international matches earlier this year, managed...

Lisa De Vanna wants to make fourth World Cup, beat quarterfinal hoodoo

Tournament of Nations: Sam Kerr (16') Japan 1-2 Australia
Sky Blues' Sam Kerr has continued her amazing goal streak, kicking her 16th goal of the season, equaling the single-season record set by Kim Little in 2014.

Matildas veteran Lisa De Vanna has her sights set on making it to a fourth World Cup, and she doesn't want to come away empty-handed.

De Vanna thought the 2015 World Cup in Canada would be her last.

But the 33-year-old is now gunning for one more, and believes her body and mind are in good enough shape to make it to the 2019 World Cup in France.

The Matildas were knocked out in the quarterfinals in each of the past three World Cups.

But Australia's women's football team are now an international powerhouse...

Nigeria to meet Germany in U-20 Women's World Cup

Nigeria have the opportunity to avenge recent U-20 Women's World Cup final defeats by Germany after being drawn against Die Nationalelf in the group stage of the 2018 event in France.

The Falconets were defeated by Germany in the finals of both the 2010 and the 2014 event, but will have the opportunity to gain a measure of revenge after being pitted alongside the European giants in the group stage of the next edition of the tournament, scheduled for August this year.

China and Haiti complete the...

Stakeholders willing to fund Australia's Women's World Cup bid

The FC crew explain why Australia's outlook at the World Cup is dreary after being drawn with France, Peru and Denmark.
Jason Dasey and PJ Roberts evaluate Australia's World Cup group and assess whether they or any other Asian teams can progress.

Australian football's stakeholders will fund the Women's World Cup bid themselves if the money is not forthcoming from the federal government, says Football NSW chairman Anter Isaac.

Speaking on Monday night -- hours before FIFA's member associations committee was due to meet on the status of Football Federation Australia -- Isaac revealed he took time last week to explain to the NSW government the acrimonious fallout that could see the world governing body in charge of Australian football by the...
