The Matildas are hoping to host the Women's World Cup in six years.

Australia will launch a bid to host the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup which will be fully supported by the federal government.

The 24-team tournament could be primarily hosted by either Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth or Canberra according to a News Corp Australia report.

The Matildas, ranked eighth in the world, would gain automatic qualification for the tournament and would be amongst the favourites to lift the trophy after making the quarterfinals at the last two World Cups.

Ex-Man United stars under fire over Lingerie Football League event

Hotel Football, owned by several former Manchester United stars, will host the Lingerie Football League UK launch.

Manchester United legends Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt are under pressure to cancel a Lingerie Football League UK (LFL UK) launch event at their hotel.

Chelsea Ladies founder Tony Farmer has launched a petition against the event at Manchester's Hotel Football, writing that the former United players "are on the verge of setting women's football in the UK back at least 25 years."

U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy takes aim at World Cup pay gap

U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy is taking aim at the pay gap in international football.

Leahy, a democrat from Vermont, introduced a Senate resolution on Monday calling on FIFA to pay women as much as men at the World Cup.

In a news release, Leahy noted that the U.S. women's team is being paid $2 million for its World Cup victory this month over Japan. By contrast, the German men's team was paid $35 million last year for its World Cup victory.
