Wigan sign Atletico 'keeper Joel on loan

Wigan have signed Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Joel Robles on loan until the end of the season.

Joel Robles
Joel had a loan spell at Rayo Vallecano last season

Joel, 22, had spent time at the DW Stadium on trial and, having impressed manager Roberto Martinez, he will join Wigan for the rest of the campaign.

An Atletico statement read: “Atletico Madrid and Wigan Athletic have reached an agreement so that Joel Robles, after a trial period with the English club, will play on loan until June 30 with the Premier League team. The goalkeeper will return to the rojiblanco at the end of this loan period.”

Joel, who had been behind Thibaut Courtois in the pecking order in Spain, will provide competition for Ali Al-Habsi and Mike Pollitt at Wigan.
