Western Sydney Wanderers sign Nick Fitzgerald, Bruce Kamau, Ruon Tongyik

Western Sydney have confirmed the long-expected A-League signings of Melbourne City trio Nick Fitzgerald, Bruce Kamau and Ruon Tongyik.

The new Wanderers have been mooted arrivals since former coach Josep Gombau was still in charge and planning for next season.

Fitzgerald, a Western Sydney local, joins on a three-year deal after more than 150 A-League appearances with Central Coast, Brisbane and City -- including 27 this season under Warren Joyce.

The 26-year-old's signing adds depth to the attacking midfield given Chris Ikonomidis looks set to return to parent club Lazio.

"To be able to come back home and play for this club is a great opportunity for me and I'm looking forward to starting," Fitzgerald said.

"I played all my junior football just around the corner for Blacktown City when I was growing up. We didn't have the Wanderers so I'm delighted to be a part of it now."

Sudan-born defender Tongyik wasn't given a single minute by Joyce this season despite a breakout last campaign under John van 't Schip that earned praise from former Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou.

Kenyan-born winger Kamau was essentially dropped once City learnt of his intention to leave.

Both have both signed two-year contracts.

"They were still good around the place," Joyce told AAP. "Fitzy's attitude was unbelievable. All three of them were to be fair. But it's the nature of the beast.

"We've maybe played kids in front of them so you can understand footballers wanting to play football."

Wanderers chief executive John Tsatsimas, who is in the process of appointing Gombau's successor, confirmed the trio were identified as desired targets earlier in the season.

It continues the club's crucial rebuild a week after releasing Alvaro Cejudo, Michael Thwaite and Jack Clisby.

The signing of Tarek Elrich is expected to be announced imminently, with further player announcements to come once a new coach is installed.

Uncontracted City pair Manny Muscat and Christian Cavallo have also been released.
