West Ham's David Moyes not worried by Patrice Evra's Marseille departure

West Ham United manager David Moyes said he had no qualms about signing Patrice Evra and that he understands why the defender kicked a fan who abused him.

Evra, 36, was banned by UEFA from all European club competition until the end of the season and had his contract terminated by Marseille after he kicked at a supporter in November.

But with West Ham in the midst of an injury crisis, Moyes, who coached the full-back at Manchester United in 2013-14, signed him on a free transfer.

"I've got no concerns about how he left Marseille, not from what he told me what happened," said Moyes, who did not share the details of the conversation. "He told me what the supporter said. I'd have no complaints."

Despite having not played for three months, Evra is set to make his West Ham debut against Watford on Saturday with Arthur Masuaku still suspended for the next four games for spitting.

"I'd considered signing him during January as, when Arthur got sent off, I knew we were short," Moyes said. "I know him well, what he is capable of, what he will bring. His level of professionalism is as good as anybody's and hopefully we can get him ready as quick as we possibly can.

"He played in November, so he's no different from someone who has had a long injury -- and getting back playing quickly is the best thing you can do."
