West Ham's Adrian has red card overturned

The red card that West Ham goalkeeper Adrian received on Wednesday has been rescinded, the FA has announced.

The Spaniard will not have to serve a one-game suspension after the Independent Regulatory Commission upheld West Ham's wrongful dismissal claim.

An hour into West Ham's goalless draw with Southampton, Adrian attempted to turn away from Sadio Mane, only to be caught out and handle outside the box as he attempted to make amends.

Adrian fell on top of the ball, and though it appeared he did not attempt to smother the ball, referee Craig Pawson issued a straight red card that his teammates immediately protested.

The FA did charge West Ham for "failing to ensure that its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion" after the incident.

West Ham manager Allardyce said after the game that he felt his goalkeeper had been fouled in the lead-up to the incident -- something he reiterated during Friday's press briefing.

"Was it a goal-scoring opportunity? Clearly we don't think it was," said Allardyce. "As far as I am concerned, in the way we have looked at it, it's a handball and you don't get sent off for that.

"You get sent off if it is denying a goal-scoring opportunity. And if you look at the situation, even though we think it was a foul, it wasn't denying a goal-scoring opportunity."
