West Ham manager Sam Allardyce disappointed with late leveller

Romelu Lukaku salvaged a 1-1 draw for Everton and a third-round replay at Upton Park in the FA Cup and West Ham manager Sam Allardyce was understandably disappointed with the late goal, while he felt his side should have defended better on that occasion.

James Collins' 56th-minute header had exposed the Toffees' defensive Achilles heel -- only QPR have conceded more in the Premier League this season -- and West Ham were on the verge of their first victory in 15 attempts since 2007 against their perennial bogey side.

Indeed, Allardyce also said striker Enner Valencia should have made it 2-0 -- and sealed the match -- with a header that Joel Robles tipped over.

He said: "We could have done an awful lot better [in defending the goal].

"It's very disappointing when it's so late in the game that they've equalised and for me it would have clinched it if Enner Valencia had put the ball in the net with a free header. You would've expected a player of his capabilities and his qualities to have scored that.

"It wasn't to be but it was a really good performance by the players.''

Lukaku's stoppage time equaliser extended his streak of scoring in his past four games against West Ham.

The Belgian striker scored earlier this season in the Premier League on Nov. 22. And It was even worse for Allardyce last season, as he watched Lukaku score the winners in both of their Premier League contests -- both as a second-half substitute.

"That man scores against us. Every time he plays against us he does," Allardyce said. "The disappointing thing was we didn't make it two when we had the chance."

Allardyce confirmed top scorer Diafra Sakho is set to be on the sidelines for several weeks but said fellow striker Andy Carroll, who missed the game at Goodison Park, will be available to face Swansea on Saturday.

He added: "Sakho has got a damaged back. Senegal have sent the medical team over and looked at the MRI scans with us. He will be out for a few weeks. [Carroll] kicked the floor in training and bruised his foot but he will be fit and well for Saturday."
