Andy Carroll desperate to help fire West Ham towards Europe

Andy Carroll is hoping to help West Ham's European qualification push this season upon his return to fitness.

Carroll, 25, has now resumed training with the Hammers after sustaining an ankle injury during the summer, meaning he has yet to feature this term.

But Sam Allardyce's side have started the campaign in impressive fashion without him, and currently sit fourth in the Premier League following wins against Liverpool and Manchester City.

"I think we can push right on for Europe," Carroll told West Ham's official website. "I don't see why not -- I think all the lads are positive about that and I know the gaffer is too.

"We're playing fantastically. The gaffer has signed some great players and we're showing the quality we've got with the goals we're scoring. That's why we are where we are in the league."

Carroll has had to watch on from the sidelines as new signings Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho have won plaudits for their displays in attack for the Hammers.

The former Liverpool man is desperate to return to action and is looking forward to linking up with another summer signing in Aaron Cresswell.

"We scored three headers at Burnley, and another on Saturday [against City] with Cresswell crossing the ball in. He whips them in and puts them on a plate," he said.

"The service that everyone is putting in the box to create chances has been great. That's what I thrive on. I can't wait to be involved with that."

Meanwhile, Sakho, who suffered a shoulder injury during the win over City, is expected to miss the Stoke clash on Saturday, but could return the following week, according to Hammers co-chairman David Gold.
