West Brom keen to sign Salomon Rondon in record bid - report

West Brom are ready to smash their transfer record for Zenit St Petersburg striker Salomon Rondon, according to Press Association Sport.

Rondon, 25, is believed to be in the country and Albion are after further firepower despite signing Rickie Lambert from Liverpool to help Saido Berahino up front.

The Baggies spent around £10 million on Brown Ideye last summer but any outlay on Rondon would eclipse that.

Ideye was close to leaving in January and any move for Rondon would cast doubt over his future at The Hawthorns.

Victor Anichebe may also be surplus to requirements at the Baggies after an injury-plagued two years at the club.

Venezuela international Rondon started his career at Aragua in his home country and has also played for Las Palmas, Malaga and Rubin Kazan. He joined Zenit in 2014 for a reported fee of around £16m.

The Baggies host Manchester City on Monday, with Joleon Lescott a minor doubt against his former club after missing two days of training this week.
