West Brom want playmakers - Irvine

West Brom boss Alan Irvine is intent on bringing more creative signings into his squad after the Baggies were held to a 0-0 draw at Southampton on Saturday.

Albion were unable to force a way through at St Mary's, though new signing Brown Ideye forced a strong save from Saints goalkeeper Fraser Forster.

While the club snapped up free agent Georgios Samaras on a free transfer earlier this week, Irving is still looking for new recruits to add to his attacking options.

"We're looking to bring in another couple of players before the window shuts," he said. "They're at the top end of the pitch, creative players."

Irvine saw his side ship two scrappy goals in the 2-2 draw with Sunderland last weekend but the former Everton coach felt his side were much better in defence at St Mary's.

"I was very pleased with the defensive display,'' he continued. "I thought we were very solid. I saw Southampton last week and they looked a real threat. We had to make sure they didn't cut us open. I was pleased how we passed the ball at times. I was happy with the performance overall.

"I'm not an unhappy with a point, that's for sure. There were times when we passed the ball well. When we did that we were able to move the ball well and got into good positions.

"This is a team that's only been together the last two weeks or so; prior to that we had 10 or 11 players working on a daily basis with young players."
