U.S.'s Josh Sargent set to train with Werder Bremen first team

American striker Josh Sargent will begin training with Werder Bremen's first team next week, coach Florian Kohfeldt says.

The news comes two days after Sargent, 17, provided an assist in his first friendly with the Bundesliga club's under-23 squad.

"Sargent will probably train with the first team one or two times next week," Kohfeldt said. "It's been a positive start, but we will give him time to develop."

Under FIFA rules, Sargent has to wait until he turns 18 on Feb. 20 to sign his first professional contract and play in an official game.

Sargent scored for the U.S. at both the Under-17 and Under-20 World Cups last year and earned a call-up to the senior squad's training camp in November.
