Werder Bremen's Aron Johannsson sets sights on return next season

Werder Bremen's United States international forward Aron Johannsson has said he hopes to be back in action "as quickly as possible" after being sidelined by injuries since September.

Johannsson, 25, joined Bremen from AZ Alkmaar last summer but was limited to only six appearances as he suffered hip and groin problems.

Despite undergoing surgery in late October, Johannsson was ruled out for the rest of the season.

He asked to be able to spend time with his family in Iceland during rehab training and Thomas Eichin, the Bremen CEO at that time, said: "We hope that the closeness to his family will have a positive effect on his recovery process."

The Alabama-born player told Bremen's official website: "I really cannot wait to be back on the pitch in front of these fans.

"Things are finally getting better, and I'm very happy about that. I have worked really hard recently and hope to be fit as quickly as possible."
