Claudio Pizarro has signed a new one-year contract with Werder Bremen. Pizarro, 37, joined Bremen for a third time in his career in September when he signed a short-term deal until the end of the season, and has gone on to score 14 goals and provide three assists in 28 appearances. The Peru international also played a key role in setting up Papy Djilobodji's late goal in Saturday's 1-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, which saw Bremen move clear of the relegation zone at their opponents' expense. Pizarro has scored 190 goals in 411 Bundesliga matches for Bremen and Bayern Munich, and needs only 10 more goals to become the first player in the German top flight to hit the 200 mark since Manfred Burgsmuller, who scored the last of his 213 goals in August 1989. The former Chelsea forward, who has said that he wants to play on until the 2018 World Cup in Russia, on Tuesday put pen to paper on a new one-year deal at Werder. "I feel really good, and I am pleased that I can play for this special club for one more year," Pizarro said in the official press release. "It was a difficult but also great year for me. I hope that we -- for the fans and all of the city --can achieve a better place in the standings next season. I want to give it my all." Bremen CEO Thomas Eichin said: "We are delighted that Claudio will be part of the team next season as a leader with his experience and his special qualities."
