U.S. national team attacker Aron Johannsson resumed individual training at Werder Bremen on Sunday, just over a month after undergoing hip surgery.

The 24-year-old played in six Bundesliga games for Bremen since joining from AZ Alkmaar this summer before needing hip surgery in late October after an unsuccessful non-surgical treatment.

In late October, the club said that Johannsson would face an uphill battle to return to the squad in 2015.

After Sunday's individual training session at Bremen, the club's sporting director Rouwen Schroder said he's not overly confident Johannsson will be able to help the club in 2015.

"It indeed stirs up hope," Schroder said. "But it does not necessarily mean he'll resume team training soon."

Schroder added that Bremen would rather wait for a fully fit player than rush his comeback.

He said: "An early start is out of the question. We will be very cautious. It's rather unlikely that Aron will play this year. It's more important that he can fully take part in the winter preseason."

In the final month of the year, Bremen play four more games, three in Bundesliga, and one in the German cup away to Borussia Monchengladbach.

Following a good start to the Bundesliga season, Werder Bremen sit just over the relegation zone, and have a three-point advantage on FC Augsburg, and VfB Stuttgart, whom they are set to meet away from home next Sunday.
