Claudio Pizarro wants to fire Werder Bremen into Europe

Werder Bremen forward Claudio Pizarro has his sights set on one last season of European football with the northern Germany club after helping them to victory over Hoffenheim on Sunday.

Pizarro -- the Bundesliga's all-time top foreign goal scorer -- marked his third debut for the club with an assist for the goal that gave them a last-minute 2-1 lead in a game they won 3-1 at the weekend.

The result lifted Bremen to sixth in the standings after four games of the season and Pizarro, who joined earlier this month, sees no reason why they cannot sustain a challenge for a place in Europe next season, during which he will turn 38.

"There's a chance we could even qualify for the Champions League," Pizarro told reporters, according to kicker. "I think [qualifying for] Europe is realistic. There are some teams who are a step ahead, and I won't name them, but behind them everybody is equal.

"Whoever fights hardest and takes their chance will qualify either for the Champions League and the Europa League."

Pizarro has only signed a one-year contract but he is likely to seek another season if he can prove he has not lost his touch.

"I'm feeling really good and I'd rather be playing for 90 minutes," he added. "And if the coach decides this, then I will be ready.

"You have always got to think big if you want to achieve things. We have a young and hungry side, the players are fighting and running a lot and I have total faith in this team.

"I just hope we can keep this up and then everybody's going to be very happy here come the end of the season."

Bremen were regulars in the Champions League between 2004 and 2011, but they have not qualified for Europe in the past four years.
