Werder to firm up Juventus partnership

Thomas Eichin is seeking a new path for Werder Bremen.

Werder Bremen sporting director Thomas Eichin is set for a trip to Turin, to intensify talks over a possible cooperation with Juventus -- and to reinforce their shaky defence.

In only 15 matches, Werder Bremen have conceded 34 goals, with 14 of them coming from their latest three Bundesliga games.

Their new keeper Raphael Wolf conceded a Bundesliga record 11 goals in his first two league games, seven of them against Bayern Munich. During the upcoming winter break, Bremen plan to reinforce their defense line and are currently monitoring the market.

"I am on the watch," Bremen sporting director Eichin told Bild. "Should the coach address that he needs another player, I will try and turn it into reality."

On Thursday, Eichin is set to travel to Turin alongside the Bremen CEO Klaus Filbry, where they will continue to discuss a potential cooperation between Juventus and Werder, as first reported in late November.

"We will to talk about the structuring of the cooperation and certainly also about players," Eichin said. The Italians are seeking a partnership with a German club to allow them to hand their fringe players first-team football in the Bundesliga.

According to Bild, Juventus have already supplied Bremen with a list of players either playing for Juve, that are currently on loan or co-owned by the Italian giants. "We need to see, if those players who are subject to negotiation, could fit at Bremen,” Eichin said.

According to Bild, one player in particular appears to be interesting for Bremen, the 21-year old Frederik Sorensen. The Denmark under-21 international currently plays for and is co-owned by struggling Serie A side FC Bologna.
